In the past two decades Norwich has undergone a rapid transformation from a small primarily manufacturing driven town into a one of East Anglia's major regional cities with a high growth service-based economy. Today the city is home to a number of large multinational comapanies, has its own university and even has its own international airport. Being an old city, Norwich also has much in the way of heritage and culture to offer.
Norwich's architecture has long been celebrated by residents and outsiders alike: the medieval cathedral, built in the 11th century, is one of the best-preserved of it's type in Britain; the city's 12th century castle, which has been converted to a museum, is also in remarkable condition; the University boasts architecture by the likes of Sir Norman Foster; there is also a selection of smaller period churches.
Norwich is also home to one of the largest covered markets in the country which, alongside several shopping centres in town, provide some of the best shopping in East Anglia.
